“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness….”
This time of year could be quite warm and humid, may not be the best of times to enjoy alfresco dining. We just have to take our chance when we plan for a seafood and wine lunch at Lamma Island a few months back.
A cool breeze under the sunny sky over the weekend turned out to be the perfect setting for the outdoor lunch. The worst of times was waiting for the wines to be chilled for the perfect serving temperature.
The 7 wines chosen to pair with the 11 course meals required certain wisdom as the list was also a good introduction to wine regions and wine styles.
The line up of the wines:
Movia Puro Rose, Slovenia
Collet Blanc de Blanc Champagne-Ay
Bouchard Chablis Premier Cru 2009
Simcic Chardonnay 2008, Slovenia
Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir 2009, Argentina
Giacomo Borgano Barolo 1998, Italy
Massolino Moscato d’Asti, Italy
We ventured from sparkling wines, then whites and reds and finally to sweet wines. We travelled with the wines from Slovenia to Continental Europe then cross the Atlantic to the new world of Argentina. We tasted the new world style from Slovenia and Argentina to the traditional style of France and Italy.
After a few hours of drinking and sharing of silly jokes, our next table would probably feel we were a bunch of fools living in the age of foolishness!
