A wine lover’s passion for the good life – today is a good expression of what that meant.
It was all by impulse, I have a gift certificate for the Four Season Spa for a long time, and it is about to expire. So I booked a 2 hour body treatment for today, a good escape for a day off from work.
After being pampered for 2 hours and feeling very rejuvenated, I strolled to Caprice next to the Spa. It is the only Michelin 2-star restaurant in Hong Kong. This is my first time dining at the restaurant, but before I walked in, I was sure it must have the ambience, service and wine list that Michelin rated highly in their scoring.
The harbor view, open kitchen, chandelier were all very impressive. The set lunch had 5 choices for appetizers and 7 choices for main course. A glass of red wine or white wine selected by the sommelier was included in the set lunch.
I chose Beef Carpaccio for starter and Roast Skate Wing in red wine sauce as the main course. The sommelier served the red wine – Casa Lapostole Merlot 2006 from Chile. He described the wine as full bodied and fruity. Indeed the color was deep ruby. The tannin was quite strong with plum and a hint of dark chocolate at finish.
The tannin softened after I tasted the Beef Carpaccio. Surprisingly the red wine also paired well with the Skate Wing. The fish was quite strong flavored and was cooked in red wine, so it paired well with the Merlot.
The service was excellent – to that I meant you could enjoy the food and wine at your own pace. I walked out of the restaurant feeling very relaxed!
