Two things I learnt from a colleague this week – Gen X spans from 1961 to 1980 and I deserved the title “The Devil Wears Chanel”!
It started when I casually strolled into a Chanel store and tried on a few pairs of ear rings and eyed on “THE” pair in 5 seconds, thinking this will complete my Chanel look for my birthday!
On the day, I walked into the office feeling very elegant with the classic Chanel look and prepared for another hectic day as planned. But it turned out to be a day full of surprises and also a sense of revelation.
I was walking to lunch with a colleague expecting to meet with a business associate and discussing a few work related topics. While deep in thoughts on the business lunch, I looked up and saw a few familiar faces and suddenly realized they were my colleagues; more than 50 of them, shouting Happy Birthday!
The afternoon was a day of continuous planning with my team, a new year with new thinking. I guess the fact that my friends from my wine class called me Madam should shed some light on my fierce attitude and working style. While walking to a bar after work with my colleagues to celebrate my birthday, one of them asked if I’ve watched the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”. I laughed when he said I am now the “Devil Wears Chanel”.
The week of revelation was also a collection of birthday gifts from friends – the art of giving gifts. A bottle of 1996 Pontet Canet, knowing how much I admire the Chateau Owner; a custom made necklace with the calligraphy of “Madam”; a small notepad to capture notes on special wines I tasted; a bouquet of Orchid knowing I am a practical person; and so much more.
The question that most people asked – what is your birthday wish?
Well, a Gen X person crossed over with Gen Y attitude – to stay young at heart!
Well Madam…. it looks like you are living your birthday wish..if there’s one person I know who is symbolic of the phrase ‘young at heart’, it has got to be Madam!
Happy Birthday.
