Walking into a -20C Vodka Bar to enjoy a shot of Vodka reminded me of the chilly winters in the East Coast and the good old days when I always ordered mixed Spirits – Gin Tonic, Rum and coke, Vodka & lime….
The restaurant had a very cozy ambience with a Russian flair. A good place to go after work to enjoy some wines and also a shot of Vodka.
Vodka can be made with wide varieties of base materials including cereal grains, potatoes, rye, barley and wheat. Generally speaking, there are 3 styles of Vodka – Eastern, Western and Flavored Vodkas.
Eastern style would preserve the character of the base material, where as Western style aim for smoothness and neutrality which made them perfect for cocktails. Flavored Vodka such as cranberry, vanilla was quite popular a few years back. Mostly seen as ladies’ drinks.
The vodka I tasted was quite harsh and strong, it was for the fun of it more than enjoyment of the spirit!
