The dining experience was quite extraordinary on the tour; we experienced dining at small family restaurants, at the Sandrone resident, and then the ultimate experience at two Michelin Star restaurants.
We started with the Michelin 2-star restaurant Piazza Duomo in the heart of Alba, followed by the Michelin 1-star restaurant Guido in the Slow Food University the following night. The moment you walked into the restaurant, the ambience and the design could probably give you a sense of the style.
Piazza Duomo is on the second floor of an old building in the historical town of Alba. The moment we walked up the stairs, there was the reception area. The maitre d’ led us to the dining room with about 8 tables. The room was in pink with hand painted drawings on the wall.
Our table was at the far end, there were many canapés on the dining table ready for us to enjoy. A jar with octopus and jelly, chips in rainbow colors packed in a bag, rice crackers placed on stone …..
The foods were all paired with wines from Ceretto, also owned by the owner. The owners were also at the restaurant dining next to us with the committee planning for next year’s truffle auction.
We were served with sparkling wine to enjoy with the canapés, and then dinner began …..
Red Beetroot Tartar
Santremo Red King Prawns with Tomato and Cherry
Vitello Tonnato New Version
Potato Gnocchi, Seirass Cheese and Green Vegetables
Cheek of Veal, Braised, Meat Sauce
Hazelnut Girella with Glanduia and Coffee Jam
Following the sparkling wine, the dinner was paired with Riesling, Monsordo and then my favorite – Barolo for the main dish. Hazelnut was in season and it was a delicious dessert paired with the fruity and floral Moscato d’Asti.
