Decanters.. we all know about them. They come in different shapes and sizes. Some are round, some shaped like funnels, others like swans, ducks, musical instruments, and even elongated poisonous snakes.

But while Riedel has certainly made its point with its wine glasses, it doesn’t feel the same way with decanters. In fact, Riedel doesn’t feel anything of the sort when it comes to decanters except that it has to look good on the table, hence its emphasis on design and style. (more…)

Following up on my plea for help on how to drink the 1975 Chateau Cantenac Brown last week, I actually got together with Madam (and a few friends) and cracked open the bottle.

Per Madam’s instructions, we didn’t really aired the wine at all and drank it somewhere between 15min to 30min after it was open and decanted (in case of sediment).

Maybe it’s the festivity spirit, maybe it’s the popping sound at the stroke of midnight or maybe it’s the thought of birthday candles waiting around the corner, somehow the image of my first Dom Pérignon lingers on.

Let’s turn back the clock for 9 years; the setting was the Picasso Restaurant in the Bellagio Hotel in Vegas.  It was my birthday; we were all dressed up for the dinner. I was flipping through the wine list; and the only thing I wanted was the Dom.  (more…)

How are you spending your Christmas?  Well, it depends on your age group, I guess.

The wild and crazy days when we would dance till dawn then search for breakfast in TST with a group of close friends has sadly passed, but I can say it was good to be young!  Somewhere down the path, the theme has somehow shifted to food and wine – a big feast! (more…)

It was a wine tasting lunch on a cold and breezy Saturday. The wine was known as Chateau Mouton Barone Philippe in the 70’s, but now everyone knows the wine as Chateau d’Armalihac – a fifth growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.

As with most of the Chateaus in Bordeaux, the history of the vineyard had gone through many changes and ownership.  It was sold to Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1933 and became part of the Mouton Rothschild family. (more…)
