It was the night of the 25th; I was sipping a glass of white wine with friends in a nicely decorated kitchen while watching my husband preparing the Christmas feast. A tasty feast for the holiday……
BBQ Spareribs with mixed vegetables
Pork Tenderloin in garlic sauce
Roast Chicken with rosemary
The Roast Chicken was slowed cooked in the oven at 80C for 2 hours and before serving it was grilled in the oven until brown.
The Pork Tenderloin and BBQ Spareribs were also slowed cooked in the oven at 80C for 2 hours, and they were pan fried before serving.
On the wine, my friend opened a few bottles of red wine from South Africa – Kanonkop Kadette 2008. The red wine was a typical new world wine; it was smooth, well-balanced with soft tannin. On the nose it showed red fruit, leather and spice. On the palate it also showed red fruit, a bit of blackcurrant, and dark chocolate. The length was quite long with a spicy finish.
The wine was a blend of 4 black grapes – Pinotage (45%), Cabernet Sauvignon (29%), Merlot (17%) and Cabernet Franc (9%). It was highly rated by Hugh Johnson. It will be a good choice as everyday wine – simple, elegant and inexpensive.
My friend described the wine as his house wine, well, for less than HK$100 a bottle, there’s no doubt about that!
