My fascination of wine always was to find out the story behind a label. This makes wine more interesting, as it isn’t just a competition on how many aromas you can find in a wine. At the end it is still a product and as a consumer you make the decision if you are willing to pay the price to enjoy alone or with a meal. Continue Reading »

A local English newspaper in Hong Kong, the SCMP, is launching a wine division locally. They are partnering with Laithwaites Wine to promote their business.
The highlight was hosting two wine tasting events in Hong Kong, targeting different market segments. The first evening was for the consumer market and the second night for corporate clients. The key attraction was meeting with Hugh Johnson, the famous wine writer from UK. Continue Reading »

My palate is more acquainted with Old World wine, Italian wine being one of my favorites, especially Barolo. When I received the email from Watson’s Wine for the many tastings and dinners they were hosting this week, my first choice was the Italian Wine tastings.
The tastings was led by Nicolas Belfrage, Master of Wine along with three vineyard owners. Continue Reading »

I love to walk around Central on Sunday, the peace and quiet that contrast deeply with the hustle and bustle on the weekdays in the heart of the financial center.
The Chairman is at the end of a cul-de-sac in Central, the street has the tranquility of a small town in Europe. The restaurant is promoting a cooking style that respects the natural flavor of the food. Continue Reading »

A wine lover’s passion for the good life – today is a good expression of what that meant.
It was all by impulse, I have a gift certificate for the Four Season Spa for a long time, and it is about to expire. So I booked a 2 hour body treatment for today, a good escape for a day off from work.

My husband loves cooking and we would always try food wine matching on the weekends. One of our close friends, who enjoyed my husband’s cooking, suggested one day that he will bring along a bottle of 1990 Chateau Gruaud Larose if my husband will prepare the dish to match the wine. The wine was retail at HK$ 1,200, so not a difficult decision to make! Continue Reading »

Robert Mondavi, a legend in Napa Valley. There was no doubt that he put Napa Valley on the wine map and shocked the wine world in the famous 1976 Paris Tastings. In my opinion, in some ways, made wine more approachable to ordinary people like us.
My husband and I took a vacation in the west coast of US last summer. It was July 2008 and we stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in San Francisco. There was a copy of Wine Spectator in the room; on the cover was Robert Mondavi, who had just passed away in May. Continue Reading »
