When I finished the piece on Opus One, it strikes me that both Robert Mondavi and Baron Philip Rothschild were very active in promoting arts and music in their days. Appreciation of art, music, food and wine should all be a part of the culture one grow up with.
Imagine walking into a Chateau in Bordeaux, there were neither paintings hanging on the wall nor any art works displayed on the hallway. How blend and boring it would be!
I was reading an article by David Tang about art appreciation in Hong Kong; it is not the millions of dollars that one would bid on famous art pieces. It is about educating and encouraging art appreciation with the general public. He was questioning the role of the prominent figures in Hong Kong.
In the prominent world of wine, Robert Mondavi and his wife played a major role in encouraging and supporting arts and music in their part of the world. To name a few – they were founding members of a new art school in Napa Valley in their days- Oxbow School. It was an art school that provides grants and instruction to art students in their junior years in High School. They also made major contributions to the restoration of the Lincoln Theatre in Yountville California.
In Opus One, you could feel the role of arts and music played in the life of the two founding owners.
Well, my view on wine, music, and arts – I may not understand them, but life would be boring without them. There are 2 artists that I like while surfing the web – they have a collection of paintings on “wine”. Here are some of the sample works.
